The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has announced that KY 502, also known as Coiltown Road, in Hopkins County reopened Friday.

Officials said the road was closed in the spring of 2022 due to severe deterioration of timber pilings on three bridges spanning the Clear Creek Watershed.

According to state transportation officials, Haydon Bridge Company demolished the old bridges, originally built in 1959, and constructed three new, modern bridges spanning nearly a half mile of wetlands in rural Hopkins County.

Officials noted that heavy rains this week led to flooding along Coiltown Road on Thursday. However, the high waters receded in time for the road to reopen this afternoon.

Coiltown Road connects US 41A and KY 109, linking Nebo with the West Hopkins area of the county As of 2019, officials reported that approximately 300 vehicles use this route daily.
