A Madisonville woman faces charges of child endangerment and assaulting a police officer following her arrest over the weekend.

Madisonville Police reported that an officer responded to a 911 open line call at a residence in the 100 block of West Railroad Street, and found a small child inside the home using the phone that had called Dispatch.

Once inside the home, police said Ashleigh Cavanaugh was found lying in bed unresponsive, with her eyes open and her body appearing rigid. After managing to awaken Cavanaugh, police noted that she had a strong odor of alcohol and became belligerent. As officers attempted to take her into custody, Cavanaugh reportedly struck an officer in the chest.

Cavanaugh was charged with endangering the welfare of a minor and assault of a police officer. She was lodged in the Hopkins County Jail.
