Firefighters responded to a reported structure fire in Madisonville on Monday, where actions by the tenant and fire crews helped contain the situation.

The Madisonville Fire Department reported that firefighters were dispatched to a potential structure fire at 636 Victoria Street, where they were informed that the fire originated in the basement and had been extinguished by the tenant using water.

Upon arrival, firefighters said they discovered a single-family home with no visible signs of fire. They said the homeowner directed them to the basement, where they found an electrical junction box with flames. After confirming that the electricity had been disconnected at the breaker box, the fire crews reportedly extinguished the flames using a water can.

After putting out the fire, the crews detected light smoke inside the house and initiated ventilation to clear the structure.

Additionally, firefighters reported that an ambulance was called to the scene for the tenant, who complained of breathing difficulties.

The Madisonville Electric Company was also called to the scene to remove the electrical meter from the building.

Once the fire scene was deemed safe, firefighters left the home.
