Two pets were rescued from a house that was destroyed by a fire in Madisonville on Sunday afternoon.
According to the Madisonville Fire Department, eighteen firefighters responded to a call about an active structure fire at 421 Hall Street. Upon arrival, they reportedly observed flames coming from a window on the building’s exterior. Firefighters said the homeowner confirmed that everyone was out of the house.
The report indicates that firefighters battled the blaze and discovered two cats inside on a second search of the home that were given oxygen by the fire department EMTs on site. Once the cats appeared to be recovering, they were reunited with their owners.
Firefighters said the Red Cross was contacted and informed that the occupants would be displaced and require assistance.
The report indicated that, following an investigation, the cause of the fire remained undetermined, and no injuries were reported.
The fire report estimates the total damage at $130,000, with $80,000 attributed to property damage and $50,000 to the contents.
