Officials at Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville have announced that Eating Disorders Awareness Week is being observed this week through Sunday.
Hospital officials state that the week is dedicated to educating the public about the realities of eating disorders while offering hope and visibility to those affected, including individuals and their loved ones.
They reported that eating disorders have the second-highest mortality rate among mental health conditions, with one person dying from an eating disorder every 52 minutes. By raising awareness, hospital officials aim to encourage early detection, which can enhance the chances of recovery. They emphasized that individuals of any size, shape, age, gender, or race can be affected by an eating disorder.
If you suspect that you or a loved one may be struggling with an eating disorder, officials strongly advise consulting a doctor right away.
