Nortonville Man Charged with Firing Shots at Neighbor Over Vet Bill

A Nortonville man was arrested after deputies investigated a shots fired call last week.

The Hopkins County Sheriff’s reported that deputies were dispatched to 225 Wells Road on Friday afternoon after a woman claimed that her neighbor, 44-year-old Russell Stokes, who resides at that address, had just fired shots at her.

According to deputies, the woman reported that on Wednesday, Stokes’ dogs jumped her fence and attacked her dogs The woman told deputies that she took her injured dog to the vet and, on Friday, tried to give Stokes the bill for the vet visit. However, she claimed that Stokes threatened her and told her to leave his property before he shot her. Deputies said the woman stated that when she left the property, Stokes pointed a handgun at her vehicle and fired several rounds.

Deputies said that the woman was not hit by any bullets and an inspection of her vehicle revealed no bullet holes or impact marks. The woman’s husband also reportedly told deputies that he was inside their home and could hear the gunshots.

Deputies located Stokes at his home on Saturday afternoon where he was taken into custody and lodged in the Hopkins County Jail on charges of first-degree wanton endangerment and third-degree terroristic threatening.
