At this week’s meeting, Madisonville City Council authorized Mayor Kevin Cotton to pursue a recycling grant, received updates on local development activities, and took steps to raise awareness on critical social issues.
In new business, the Council unanimously passed a resolution, presented by City Clerk Kim Blue, authorizing the mayor to apply for a $71,423 recycling grant from the Kentucky Division of Waste Management to assist with providing equipment and supplies to offer services to the community. If approved, the City would contribute a 25% match.

During department reports, Planning and Zoning Administrator Mandy Todd announced that over 20 permits were issued in March, generating more than $11,000 in permit fees.

click to download audioHe shared his personal experiences with CASA, noting that he served as a CASA Board member many years ago while working at the fire department. Additionally, Mayor Cotton said he has been a foster adoptive parent for many years, having welcomed over 50 children into their home.
click to download audioHe then presented the National Child Abuse Prevention Month Proclamation to Ken Hundley, a CASA board member and retired Associate Pastor for Student Ministries at Madisonville First United Methodist Church.
Mayor Cotton also declared April as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month and Fair Housing Month in the City of Madisonville.
