Sean Harvey/Hopkins County mugshot
A call about a suspicious vehicle in Madisonville on Friday night led to a police chase that ended in Dawson Springs.
According to Madisonville Police, officers responded to the call on Lake Chester Drive and saw the vehicle leaving the area. Police said they attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle after the driver, later identified as 44-year-old Sean Harvey, was seen not wearing a seatbelt.
When officers approached Harvey, they said he was sweating, breathing heavily, and shaking. While one officer returned to the cruiser to verify his driver’s license and insurance, another officer reportedly asked Harvey multiple times to exit the vehicle, but they said he refused. Police said Harvey then fled in his vehicle, reaching 75 mph in a 55 mph zone, heading towards Dawson Springs, where Dawson Springs Police and Kentucky State Police deployed a spike strip to stop him. Police said Harvey was taken into custody without further incident.
He was booked into the Hopkins County Jail on multiple charges including wanton endangerment of a police officer, fleeing or evading police, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
