The Dawson Springs Board of Education finalized the 2024-2025 calendar Monday night and received updates on the safe room project and principal search.
The Board approved the 2024-2025 school calendar, setting the last day for students and graduation on Friday, May 23, and the closing day for staff on Tuesday, May 27.
Superintendent Leonard Whalen updated the Board on the safe room project, noting he is awaiting documentation from the architect, which he expects to receive by next week, ahead of the June 20 submission deadline.

click to download audioIn new business, the Board decided to retain Duguid, Gentry and Associates, PSC as the school district’s auditor for Fiscal Year 2025, with an estimated cost of $23,000. Whalen noted that while this cost rises annually, there are no viable alternatives.

In other actions, the board approved continuing partnerships with the West Kentucky Educational Cooperative for 2025-2026 across various disciplines at an estimated cost of $14,350, and agreed to use Mountain Comprehensive Care Center for student services as needed.
