A woman, initially arrested for public intoxication, is now facing additional charges after authorities discovered drugs hidden in her clothing as she was being booked into the Hopkins County Jail.

Madisonville Police reported that officers responded to a call Friday afternoon about a suspicious vehicle parked in the back lot of Hucks on National Mine Road. Following an investigation, police said Theresa Smith was taken into custody for being under the influence of alcohol and multiple prescription pills.

She was charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place and second-degree criminal simulation.

While conducting a strip search, jail staff told police that they had discovered a clear glass pipe containing a suspected meth rock in her underwear.

Smith was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with physical evidence and promoting contraband.
