A pursuit through Madisonville on Monday afternoon concluded with the arrest of a 27-year-old man who is now facing a series of charges after he reportedly fled from law enforcement on his motorcycle.

According to Madisonville Police, an officer tried to pull over a motorcycle driven by Chasten Bax on South Main Street for speeding and reckless driving. Bax allegedly fled, reaching speeds over 60 mph in a 35 mph zone, and was weaving between lanes to avoid head-on collisions with other vehicles.

Police reported that Bax continued to flee by turning onto the Hopkins County Fairgrounds, crossing a field to Beaver Creek Drive, and abandoning his motorcycle on private property. The property owner advised police that Bax ran toward the CSX railroad tracks through a wooded area. Officers said Bax attempted to hide under some leaves and tried to change clothes before being apprehended.

During a search of a bag and Bax’s clothing, police said they found suspected marijuana, a marijuana grinder with residue, and a pipe with residue.

Bax was charged with fleeing or evading police, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, wanton endangerment and other violations.
