Eighth-grade students at James Madison Middle School recently delved into the lives and leadership of various historical figures from the American Revolution as part of a unique educational project.

Officials from Hopkins County Schools reported that the American Revolutionary War Museum featured visits from other students and community guests who assisted in evaluating the student’s work. They noted this was the first time for the event.

In a written statement, 8th-grade social studies teacher Amanda Bearden explained that the purpose of this activity was to provide students with the opportunity to learn the history and impact of various individuals on the Revolutionary War. She noted that students often focus solely on figures like George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, and other founding fathers, but she wanted to show them that people from all different backgrounds also played a role in the Revolution.
