After being closed since Saturday night due to severe flooding, Interstate 69 near the Caldwell-Hopkins County Line has reopened to traffic as of 10:30 Tuesday morning.
According to officials from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, traffic on I-69 has resumed in both northbound and southbound directions, extending from I-24 in Lyon County to the I-69/I-169 Western Kentucky Parkway in Hopkins County.
Officials said that floodwaters from the Tradewater River had receded from I-69 in Hopkins County by Tuesday morning. The said crews spent Tuesday morning clearing flood debris, patching potholes, and inspecting the bridges over the river in both the northbound and southbound lanes.
All lanes of the interstate were closed at 11:00 Saturday night near after five inches of rainfall were reported in Hopkins County within 24 hours, causing the Tradewater River to swell to unprecedented levels near the 90-mile marker on I-69, just west of Dawson Springs. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials stated they managed traffic as long as it was safe, but ultimately had to close the interstate when water covered the road.
