Madisonville City Council Receives Update on Police Academy Training Progress

The Madisonville City Council received an update on the progress of the first class of recruits attending the Western Kentucky Law Enforcement Training Center during Monday night’s meeting.

In February, the first class at the police training academy started in-person sessions at the Madisonville campus, following the completion of 80 hours of online training by 24 recruits, according to the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice.

In his update, Police Chief Steve Bryan said that he believes they currently have 22 recruits.

click to download audioChief Bryan noted that another class of recruits is scheduled to begin in-person training in August. He also mentioned that the Madisonville Police Department is currently undergoing a hiring process, and he is hopeful that they will be able to recruit someone from this process to join the upcoming class.

Chief Bryan also presented the Council with his March report, detailing the number of call responses, arrests, and accidents handled by the police department.

click to download audioHe reported that the street value of all drugs seized last month exceeded $4,500.

click to download audioAccording to Chief Bryan, the peak times for traffic accidents in March were Thursdays at 3 PM and Fridays at 2 PM.

He reported that, for the calendar year to date, total crimes have decreased by 38% compared to the same period last year.
